Tonight was our last night off before the tour wraps up. Last night we played in South Carolina and by the time we were finished it was mc chris’s birthday - we had a quiet, sombre ceremony in the parking lot, the details of which are privileged to members of our dark coven, and then took bittersweet leave of our posse until tomorrow.
I don’t know exactly how I’ll function without all these knuckleheads around once these last few shows are mopped up.
Late at night, Tribe One and I rendezvoused at Cook Out to meet with kHill, Sulfur, Cecilnick, Stealth, and the Carolina crew (not a crew name). The parts of the tour where we’ve been able to really spend time with our friends have been the most humanizing. I mean there’s the friends we’re on tour with, and they’re great, but people outside of our strange tunnel of experience help us return to planet earth where we will have to live after all of this is over.
Last week in Florida I was joined for two nights by my partner, Young K (feministrockstar.tumblr.com), and it was such a relief after over six weeks apart and not really in good communication. Plus we got to rap together in Tampa and Orlando and they were two of the best shows of the whole tour!
Here are the last few shows. I hope I see you somewhere - and I hope I see everyone I’ve already seen on this trip again some time soon!

DIG: On tour with other rappers, I’m sure there’s a party lifestyle that happens on the road.
mc: No, there really isn’t. The focus with rappers these days is, “Do I have enough merch to sell at my show?” “Have I slept enough?” “Have I eaten food?” “How long is my drive?”
I think i missed a week! Oops.

Reinvent yourself! California!
Last week was a real rollercoaster, both because we had some shows that popped off more than others (Portlandia, my goodness!), and because driving through the incredible Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Utah and Oregon was breathtaking in every sense.
Oh also we slept in the car and a laundromat for the first time in Tacoma, and that was preferable to the Motel 6 we endured last night. We’ve had some nice Motel 6, Super 8, Days Inn experiences, but this one cost more than any of them and lacked the following amenities:
- free wi-fi;
- locking bathroom door;
- refrigerator (so long chicken wings!);
- lights that turn on under any circumstances.
Of course it’s obvious which of those was hardest to bear up under - pay three bucks for wifi?? I’d sooner … like, not!
I just want to know where this Motel 6 was when all the others got together and agreed that it is the 21st century. Yeesh am i right!!
Ok onto the sunny forecast…
Today i woke up in California for the first time in my life. Tonight I’m playing in San Francisco for the first time in my life. I’m excited to be joined on stage tonight by Satellite High and Dopey Ziegler of Bagel Mafia! We’re going to do a special extended version of “Dum Out,” and also meet in person for the first time! For your entertainment.
(the above happened last night - Tuesday - sorry i posted this late!)
